Drug war warriors are the new addicts

John Tierney is on a roll with yet another excellent op-ed on Debunking the Drug War. While he doesn't really tell us anything we didn't already know in the policy reform community, he says it really well for the readers of the NYT who aren't all as savvy. He's basically telling the public the problem is prohibition of drugs, not the use of drugs.

Although I think he wrongly dismisses the seriousness of the meth problem in terms of the danger of home labs, I suppose you can't get into the subtleties in a short column and overall, I have to think it's a sign of progress and a testimony to the work reformers have done to bring the issue into the public dialogue, that this series is being run at all.

Five years ago, you wouldn't have seen this level of frank discourse in a major media outlet or probably any discussion at all.
