Girl Talk

This has nothing to do with the war on some drugs but I was amused by the idea of the Queen having a girl power party. Over 180 women were invited to "chow down" at the palace. No boys allowed.

Over sauteed loin of lamb and passionfruit cheesecake, the cream of British womanhood joined Her Majesty the Queen yesterday for an historic girls-only lunch to celebrate female achievement.

The guest list was most eclectic ranging from teenage pop star Charlotte Church to Heather Mills-McCartney (wife of you know who) and Kate Moss, all of whom might have been expected to be invited. I was surprised to see some old 60s celebs on the list however, like designer Mary Quant and the model most responsible for making anorexia fashionable, Twiggy.

And I guess even the monarchy worries about its image. According to attendee Glasgow University sociologist Barbara Littlewood, the Queen had assembled an "interesting collection" of women. "It is an attempt to make the monarchy seem kind of hip and relevant," she said.

Hard sell if you ask me.
