HAVE HORSE, WILL TRAVEL

I was delighted to hear from Howard Wooldridge this week. Most of you will remember his three year, cross country journey, with his trusty horse Misty on behalf of drug policy reform. He says she is doing well and hints she may be hearing the pitter-patter of little hooves in the spring.

Meanwhile Howard is traveling non-stop by conventional means and despite a heavy speaking schedule on behalf of LEAP and working on his book, he found time to send a couple of letters to the editor. He's not one to sugarcoat the message.

Ms. Morgan, we in law enforcement know that every drug dealer arrested or killed is quickly replaced. If you want to end the violence and death and 75 percent of the felony crime in Mississippi, you need to get rid of drug prohibition.

A policy whose cornerstone is personal responsibility would help both individuals and society. The government and its police are not the answer.

I love it when he talks like that but this is my all time favorite quote.

"In the 15 years I was a cop, I never took a call for an accident, suicide or assault resulting from use of marijuana."

And what I love even more is he'll say the same thing to anyone from the Rotary Club to the guy behind him in the grocery store line. He's one of the best advocates for legalization I have ever met. Glad he's on our side.
