AN EXPERIMENT IN TECHNOLOGY

I'm trying to figure out how to use Photobucket. If this works, you will see a picture of me that appeared in PorEsto! almost a year ago. Well here goes....

How about that, it worked on the first try. I'm the one in pink. It was incredibly hot under the tent in the main square of Tixkokob that day but the people were attentive to every speaker and it seemed nearly everyone spoke.

It was an extraordinary experience, one of many living lessons in the ten days of the Narco News School of Authentic Journalism's first session. It felt like I was sitting in the middle of pure democracy and I found it significant that it was the newspaper and not the government providing the forum. Everyone's remarks were published the next day.

Mario Menendez, owner/publisher of PorEsto! holds these town meetings regularly in the little villages all across the Yucatan peninsula. He provides these forums for his readers and the people speak. Watching him in action, it was easy to see why he's called the father of authentic journalism.
