HORSING AROUND

My friend Ronnie knows a few of the players on the local horse race circuit from when he owned the Baystate Hotel. We spent about an hour yesterday talking to a one of the horse trainers, Donnie George. Turns out that the guy is a member of the family who used to deliver the bottled gas to the farm. He's been in the racing business for years and had some great stories about life inside the owner's circle. Quote of the day goes to Don. He didn't make it up, someone else said this in 1938, but it still made me smile:

When Seabiscuit beat War Admiral, he became a Rear Admiral.

Maybe you had to be there. In any event the holiday's over and it's back to work for me. I'll be catching you up on the drug war news later tonight.
