I received another response from my critic in South Haven. This morning, Ms. O writes:

The stupid and unethical thing that Conroy did was trying his experiment with the dogs without getting permission beforehand from higher-ups. The coverage of the story was flawed in the sense that reporters took police opinions about Conroy's motives (the so-called admission of guilt) and claimed they were in Conroy's own words.

The locker was indeed unassigned. There was no student framed. The plant was intended to prove how ineffectual the dogs are, which is why Conroy revealed it. Why else would he admitt it? Conroy was working toward eliminating drug dogs from schools. He was the best administrator the South Haven School system has seen in my lifetime, and because of the questionable police pratices, shotty reporting, and small town mentality we have lost him forever.

Of course, Last One Speaks always has a reply:

You obviously missed my follow-up post on this story. Check out the police report in this post, where Conroy freely admits setting up a particular student to the police officers. And it seems unlikely he would have received permission from his higher-ups to commit such an illegal act. Further, if he was innocent, why did he subsequently resign instead of fighting the charges.

As I said before, the failure of the dogs to find the drugs simply illustrates the wasteful use of tax dollars on an ineffective program. The thousands these sweeps cost could restore arts and music programs for the students which would better serve as deterrent to drug abuse. Busy kids are a lot less likely to abuse drugs.

As for Conroy, an adult whose idea of helping a student with a drug problem is setting him up for a false arrest, does not belong anywhere near children. I don't understand how you could excuse such unethical behavior.

Maybe the police report will convince her, that her loyalty to this fiend is misplaced.
