Spring fever two

Okay, I picked up some extra hours at work so "tomorrow" in my time was more like three days but here's more from my walkabout at the beginning of the week.

Pink trees are busting out all over.

Snow drops are the only snow we've seen here in weeks.

And if you look closely, that's a sleeping bumblebee resting on some early phlox.

Spring Fever

Finally got a couple of days off in a row. Happily on beautiful days. Been much too lovely outdoors to sit in front of the computer. But I do have photos. Ours should pop in the next day or so but neighbors beat us to the first daffodils in bloom.

The only real pussy willows I've seen since I've moved south.

Weird tree, but a pussy willow nonetheless.

And this isn't the first crocus, I saw but it's the first I could take a picture of.

More tomorrow...

Day off

Don't know whether to be grateful that they didn't call me in to work today or worried because even with the extra shifts I still don't have enough hours. But I really did need a day off even though I'm going to need to use it to do errands and get the laundry done. No rest for the weary...

Meanwhile, I can't believe no one thought of this during the 60s. It's like being inside the head of someone on an acid trip.

Offer I can't refuse

Intended to catch up here today but just got the call from work. They offered me a pick-up shift so it's off to work I go... So how about a belated Valentine song for now?

Score!!!

One plus about working for the Big Box Store is I get to see what the good deals are on any given day and one thing I'll say about my store is they have the best clearance sales anywhere. Yesterday they had a one day extra bonus sale, 40% off the already marked down winter stuff. Scored another long sleeve work shirt for $2.79 and fleecy warm pajama pants for $4.39, both of which I really needed. And I desperately needed a new set of sheets for my little twin bed. Last week I scored a 100% cotton set for only $4.99.

Sadly, all this still feels like a splurge to me these days when I'm wondering how I'm going to pay my heating bill and the rent, much less buy any food. I guess I'm just going to keep hoping to pick up extra shifts. I really need some call-ins for the next two weeks. I'm only scheduled for 7 days total out of the 14.

But at least this week has been good for picking up hours. And I'm happy that they cancelled my early shift on the register today so I could take the afternoon shift at the pharmacy instead. That gives me an extra hour today. So there's that...

Got no time

Sorry, I've been picking up extra hours and gave up my only day off yesterday to take a call in shift so posting has obviously been light. It was worth it though. I got to work in the pharmacy. Really like that shift. The work appeals to my meticulous inner being and it's warm in there. Wouldn't mind snagging a permanent position in that department. I'd be good at it I think.

Meanwhile, I'm off to work again. No days off until next Tuesday and I'll be trying hard to get some more call in shifts. The sad part is, even working seven days a week, I'm not making enough to cover my expenses. But at least I get closer than I would without the extra shifts. So there's that...

Superbowl Sunday

Nearly as I can remember, I believe I've watched at least part of every single Superbowl since the first one. I'll admit I'm not a football fan but I always the commercials and hey, there was always a party. Don't think I ever did the same thing twice either. My best one was the year I was in Belize and watched it from a tropical bar with the surf crashing within feet of the TV.

Think I'm going to miss it this year. I picked up a shift at the Big Box for tonight and even though I'll be working on the floor instead of the registers, seems unlikely I'll get a chance to go over to electronics and catch a few plays. It's on the opposite end of the store. Guess I don't care really. These days you can see all the commercials on the internet and the game itself is almost boring anyway.

Meanwhile, with this pick up shift, I only get one day off this week. Hell of it is, even though it ties me up every day, I still only get about 25 hours of work for the week. This is dark secret of these kind of jobs. They tie up most of your time since you still have to get ready and drive over and all, but they don't actually give you enough hours to make ends meet and it's not very easy to get an second job when your hours always change.

Snowzilla

Well I'm looking at grass growing in the lawn and daffodils poking through at the sunny corner of the porch. Weatherguy is talking about maybe some snow later next week but it looks iffy and even it does happen, doubt it will be enough to make one of these.

Too cool, don't you think?

In memory of Dr. Tom

Those of you who know me well will remember my overwhelming dentist phobia. Terrified of the dentist. Then I found Dr. Tom. He was so nice and really good at dentistry. I never enjoyed going to the dentist still, but I loved him so much, I would have married that goofy geek. Sadly, he died suddenly, shortly after I left lovely downtown Noho. Tragic. He was so young.

The work he did on my molars has held up for almost 20 years. That is until last week. I cracked a molar on a Cheezit cracker of all things. Or I should say, I cracked what was left of the natural tooth that was holding the filling up. In fact, calling it a filling does it an injustice. It's more like a hand built tooth that Dr. Tom hand carved out of some of composite because I couldn't afford to get a real crown.

Oddly enough there was little of the natural tooth left so when that fell out, the composite still totally works for chewing. It had some sharp edges that were cutting my tongue but otherwise it's still mostly there.

I don't want to get it fixed. For one thing, I'm so broke I can't afford to go to a dentist. For another I have to go through the trauma of finding a new dentist in this town. But mostly, I managed to file off the rough edges so it doesn't hurt otherwise and if I get it repaired I'm guessing they'll drill off Dr. Tom's handiwork. It's all I have left of him. Don't want to give it up until I have no other choice.

My favorite cartoons

I watched a lot of cartoons as a kid. As an adult too actually. And still to this day, my very favorite is Rocky and Bullwinkle. But coming in at almost a tie for all time favorite is that mad scientist -- Clyde Crashcup.

I'd forgotten it was part of the Alvin Show and don't you just love Leonardo?

Snow job

I don't miss the numb hands and feet, wind that freezes your nose hair or the white knuckle driving, but admit I do miss making snow creatures.
